Alcala Urged Scholars to be at the Forefront of PH initiatives Toward Rural Development

MPM-RD Commencement Exercises

ORTIGAS CENTER, Pasig City – Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala urged the scholars who have just graduated with a degree on Masters in Public Management major in Rural Development (MPM-RD) to use the knowledge they acquired to lead in policy development and management of agriculture and business projects. He further uttered his confidence in the graduates' knowledge and capabilities, expecting them to be at the forefront of the country's initiatives toward rural development. Alcala was a keynote speaker during the commencement exercises for MPM-RD of the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP), together with the other heads of the partner agencies for the National Convergence Initiative (NCI) for Sustainable Development Program such as Agrarian Reform Secretary Virgilio delos Reyes, and Assistant Secretary Daniel Darius Nicer on behalf of Secretary Ramon Paje of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). The new graduates under the NCI program are from the different line agencies of the Department of Agriculture (DA). They are: Hazel Ann L. Alforja, Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS); Ronaldo A. Canabe, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in Region V; Johndom B. Domagtoy, Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) in Region VII; Ken Ryan P. Eleazar, National Agricultural and Fishery Council (NAFC); Jessa-Honeylet M. Fong, DA-Regional Field Unit XII (RFU XII); Rondell Ray D. Manjarres-, Sugar Regulatory Adminstration (SRA); Joel Q. Matira, Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC); Bernard O. Pacete, DA-Regional Field Unit XII (RFU XII); Jerolet C.Sahagun, Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority (FPA); and Mary Ann S. Virtudes, DA-Rapid Food Production Enhancement Programme (DA-RaFPEP). They were among the 68 graduates who received their diplomas during the commencement exercises last February 20, 2014 at the Chardonnay-Astoria Hotel in this city. MPM-RD is a double-badge degree granted by the partner academic institutions such as the DAP and the Ateneo School of Government under the scholarship program of the NCI Program of the DA, Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), and the DENR. It is an 18-month course that employs blended learning approach that intermixes traditional face-to-face classroom with online learning and exclusively for the employees of all line agencies under the DA, DAR and DENR. ATI, as the program's designated agency for the scholarship program, is now accepting applications for the next batch which will start in July 2014.
