ATI Holds Animal Welfare Day

Executive Director Anna Cabrera of PAWS discusses issues on violence in animals

DILIMAN, Quezon City – In celebration of this year’s Animal Welfare Week in the country, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) discussed issues on animal cruelty and responsible pet ownership with its workforce during the Institute’s General Assembly dubbed as “ATI Pets Day” held last October 4, 2013 in ATI – Central Office in this city.
 
Representatives from the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) were invited to talk about Violence in Animals: Why We Should Care.  Furthermore, Anna H. Cabrera, Executive Director of PAWS introduced their organization and their initiatives, highlighting their “Dr. Dog” and “Adopt a Pet” programs.
 
In addition to this, ATI also administered “I Love My Pet” photo contest to which the winners were announced and awarded prizes during the assembly.  As such, Rechilda R. Gregorio of the ATI-Knowledge Products Management Division won first prize and brought home some Royal Canine Philippines, Inc. products namely, a 10—kilogram bag Mini Dermacomfort and two boxes of Kitten Instinctive.  Marisa O. Galgo and Marilyn J. Bautista both from the ATI-Administrative and Finance Division landed on the second and third places, respectively. Entries were photos of the personnel with their respective pets along with a catchy caption.
 
This year’s 9th National Observance for Animal Welfare Week Celebration of the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) with the theme “Bansang Progresibo, Pagpapahalaga sa Hayop ay Aktibo” was conducted last October 1 to 5, 2013.  This is in pursuant to Malacañang Proclamation No. 715, declaring the first week of October of each year as “Animal Welfare Week”.
