2013 Farm Youth Congress Held in Palawan
PUERTO PRINCESA, Palawan---"Produktibong Kabataan: Kaagapay sa Kabuhayan at Kaunlaran" is this year`s theme on the 61st Farm Youth or 4-H Club National Congress.
This activity convened around 446 delegates composed of 4-H Club members from the different regions of the country, together with the focal persons and coordinators of the rural-based organizations of the Department of Agriculture - Regional Field Offices (DA-RFO) and Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) affirming their commitments as members and officers and likewise, enhancing their capabilites for actively participating in the agricultural development.
Activities were a blend of non-competitive and well-rounded competitive experiences recognizing and nurturing their strengths, interests and abilities such as coming up with concepts, framework and innovations in their livelihood projects. There was also a sharing of experiences and learnings from the delegates sent to international events held in Seoul, South Korea; New Delhi, India and Brunei Darussalam.
Notwithstanding was the presentation of success stories of 2012 Gawad Saka national awardees on Outstanding Young Farmer/Fisherfolk, Dario Gullos from Española, Palawan and 4-H Club Outstanding Young Farmer/Fisherfolk Organization represented by Marvin Alviar from Culianan, Zamboanga City. Both Gullos and Alviar expressed their gratitude to ATI as they were able to inspire other neighboring communities in terms of promoting good agriculture and fishery practices. Likewise, attending trainings and personality development also honed their potentials of being national winners.
In addition, the Gawad Saka regional winners, partners, stakeholders and clients with tangible contributions in the implementation of the program were acknowledged and awarded. Project contests, cultural presentations and candle lighting were some of the main events of the Congress.
"I am congratulating each and everyone of you for putting up a very strong organization and implementing such initiatives and programs of the Department of Agriculture thus achieving growth and sufficiency for the whole country", said Dr. Asterio P. Saliot, ATI Director during the program.
Atty. Cipriano G. Santiago, Regional Execituive Director of DA-RFO IV-B, stood for Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala and delivered his message for the 4-H delegates. He emphasized the importance of the organization to attain food security and self-sufficiency as the theme stated so. He reminded them saying "Huwag nating pabayaan ang sakahan na nanggaling sa ating mga magulang" (Let us not forget the ricefields that came from our parents.)
The Congress was conducted through the collaboration of National 4-H Federation, DA-RFOs, and ATI. The three-day affair was held on June 11 to 13, 2013 at the Legend Hotel in this province. (with reports from Alicia Rose D. Nebreja)
