Carabao-based Farmers Visit ATI

DILIMAN, Quezon City -- In line with their implementation of the Carabao Development Program (CDP) for smallhold rural farmers, the Philippine Carabao Center brought some 50 farmers to the Agricultural Training Institute-Central Office as part of their educational tour on September 20, 2012.  

The CDP is implemented nationwide including Nueva Ecija as the National Impact Zone (NIZ).  The NIZ has been a development modality and approach to fastrack the massive promotion, preservation, promotion and management of carabao as a business potential for meat, dairy, draft and hide and other means.  They also work hand-in-hand to mold the farmers to become self-sufficient and potential entrepreneurs.
The farmers got to familiarize on ATI's primary function as the extension and training arm of the Department of Agriculture (DA) through a short film of the ATI corporate profile. Afterwhich, the brief orientation focused on the e-Extension Program for Agriculture and Fisheries where they showed interest which reflected on their queries during the short forum. They also took home some IEC materials which according to them would help and educate them further in their farming systems. 
The PCC expressed that ATI is one of the active agencies involved in championing the rural farmers under the DA and acknowledging its efforts in coming up with innovative strategies in providing relevant information for effective and efficient extension and education services.
