Seniors Broaden Horizons at ATI-ITCPH

Aimed at reaching out to various community sectors, some seniors citizens of Lipa City dabbled in agricultural pursuits at ATI-ITCPH last week, through a couple of one-day trainings. The Art and Science of Herbs and Dairy Processing are the Center’s newest course offerings, especially designed for the elderly and PWDs.
The elders attended the Seminar on the Art and Science of Herbs or Herbology on February 9, which tackled the different types of herbs and their common uses. Though some of them had their Urban Gardening training at the Center and others keep actual gardens at home, they still enjoyed the seminar highlights—apple cider vinegar and lozenges making.
Meanwhile, milk pasteurization and pastillas making were the main features of the Dairy Processing course held on February 11. Also included in this course was an introduction on the Philippine dairy industry and its great potential as a business enterprise.
On February 12, the Center accommodated more senior citizens for a Fun Day at the GREEN Farm activity. Clad in dust coats and treated rubber boots, they took notes and asked questions as the experts showed them around the farm and talked about basic farm management, finishers production, and goat husbandry. More farming knowledge on organic gardening, poultry, and native pigs was imparted by another set of experts in the second part of the activity. They also got to do some herb picking, and competed in pig making out of recycled plastic bottles and spray paint.
