OLD BALARA, Quezon City – The Old Balara community in Quezon City becomes the first stop of the Department of Agriculture (DA) and Agricultural Training Institute’s (ATI) “ATIng Gulayan ng DA” Roadshow. Some ATI staff, led by Deputy Director Alfredo Aton, personally visited families in the area to encourage them to maximize their land resources and cultivate their vacant lots to become a source of food for their own families. This is the first of a series of roadshows to be held within the metro as part of the DA’s campaign to promote urban gardening as a strategy in attaining food security and poverty alleviation. To help them set up small vegetable gardens in their own backyards, a free seminar, information kits and planting materials were given out during the activity. Held on December 1, 2016 at the local covered court, the ATIng Gulayan ng DA Roadshow was held in collaboration with the local government unit, Bureau of Plant Industry, Bureau of Soils and Water Management, and other DA agencies and bureaus.
