Taposok to New AGRiDOCs: You are the Instruments of Change

Dr. Taposok with the new AGRIDOCs graduates

NABUA, Camarines Sur – The government supports the increasing number of Agricultural Development and Extension Officers of the Community or AgRiDOCs because of their significant role in the transformation of the communities in the countryside. This was stressed by OIC-Director Luz A. Taposok of the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) during the graduation of AGRiDOCs held recently.

Some 26 AgRiDOCs successfully completed the season-long training on the delivery of extension services entitled “Enabling the AgRiDOC: A New Breed of Rice Extensionists”. The training was aimed at improving the promotion and delivery of extension services by enhancing the capability of the next generation of rice extension professionals.
Following the confirmation of graduates, Dr. Taposok delivered her message to the participants and reminded them of their duties and responsibilities as extension officers. “You are the key to the transformation of our communities in the countryside. You, as AgRiDOCs are expected to be the catalysts that would invigorate, strengthen the agricultural extension system and help make more farming communities competitive, sustainable and resilient.”
She also stated, “You are the instruments of change because you will influence, you will inspire our rural people to respond well to the new and future challenges of agriculture in general, and rice production in particular.”
Furthermore, the ATI Director believed that the desire to uplift lives is deeply embedded in the hearts of the graduates and so she urged them not to be discouraged when their development plans will be put to test. “The community development plan you have prepared will be put to the test so that all the knowledge and learnings gained in the training will be showcased and replicated to other areas.”
Dr. Taposok added, “Deep within you, is the desire to uplift lives. It is mainly the reason why we go to work everyday – to uplift the lives of the Filipino people whom we serve.” She then ended her speech by challenging the graduates as she shared the story of the duck and the eagle. “As you walk out this hall today, you have the choice to either quack and complain like a duck or to soar high just like an eagle.”
Other guests who graced the event were Regional Executive Director Elena Delos Santos of DA Regional Field Office in Bicol Region, OIC-Center Director Vivien Carable of ATI Regional Training Center V, Branch Manager Engr. Artemio Vasallo of PhilRice Bicol, LGUs of Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur and City Agriculturist Office of Sorsogon, Legazpi and Masbate.
The AgRiDOC Commencement ceremony was held last March 28, 2017 at Macagang Business Center, Inc., in the said province.
