Farmers Recognized During the 2015 National Corn Congress

Lecture series for the corn farmers before the awaited awarding ceremony.

"Moving Forward Enhancing Competitiveness: Philippine Corn Towards ASEAN Integration” was the theme for the 11th Philippine National Corn Congress which highlighted the 3rd National Quality Corn Achievers Award.

Corn farmers from all over the different regions in the country were given due recognition through the awards they rightly deserve.

It was a way to strengthen the sector and for the Department of Agriculture (DA) through the DA-Regional Field Office III, Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) and the Philippine Maize Federation, Inc. to give credit to the efforts and all the great things done by the corn farmers and Local Government Units.

ATI Director Asterio Saliot carried with him “DA’s sincere appreciation to the farmers, extension workers and local chief executives for being instruments to the abundant blessings that will reach and be felt by all the Filipino people in the country.”

“When we say thank you, it is our deepest recognition and acknowledgement for the sacrifice you’ve made so that others who are left behind and excluded can share with us the feeling of joy and realization that after all we belong to one big family.” This family as indicated by Saliot is the “family of strong corn farmers that will live to face adverse challenges for the sake of our brothers and sisters and for the country.”

In celebration of the activity’s success, the ATI Director reminded the participants of a truism he quoted from Julian Lapitan of the International Rice Research Institute -- “success without a successor is still a failure.” Thus, he encouraged the corn sector in giving out their best to be able to develop successors who will continue the success that have been made and to genuinely work together to bring forward an empowered Philippine agriculture in the ASEAN community.
