AgSur: among 22 poorest provinces to get millions-worth of technical assistance from ATI

AgSur: among 22 poorest provinces to get millions-worth of technical assistance from ATI

The Agricultural Training Institute Caraga Region paid a courtesy call to all city/municipal local government units (LGUs) of Agusan del Sur from April 17-21, 2017.  The purpose was to orient the local chief executives on the  program dubbed as Tier 2: Extension Support for the Twenty Two (22) Poorest Provinces in the Philippines (T2ESPPP) in which Agusan del Sur is the lone recipient in Caraga Region.
Agusan del Sur’s selection was based on the 2015 data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) where it showed that the said province is among the 22 Philippine provinces with the highest poverty incidence.
Being a recipient of T2ES22PPP means that Agusan del Sur shall receive various trainings and after-training  assistance from ATI. Target beneficiaries shall be farming / fishing communities in the poorest barangays with the aim of increasing productivity.
Ms. Nena Lomuntad, Planning Officer II of ATI-Caraga and focal person of the T2ESPPP program in the region, explained that a needs survey shall first be conducted in the identified barangays to determine the felt needs of the community. The survey shall be the basis in determining the kind of training to be conducted and other assistance to be extended by ATI.
According to Mr. Robert T. Poculan Jr., LGUs should actively participate and cooperate in the implementation of this program because each pilot barangay shall receive almost two million worth of technical assistance and provision of farm inputs depending on the communities’ needs.
San Francisco Mayor Jenny de Asis was among the mayors who expressed heartfelt gratitude to ATI for the training and extension interventions to be extended in the coming months. She assured the agency that her LGU will actively support in the program implementation and will be ready to give a counterpart should it be necessary.
During the week-long activity, a total of 12 municipalities and one city were visited by the team. These are the municipalities of Sibagat, Esperanza, Prosperidad, San Francisco, Rosario, Bunawan, Sta. Josefa, Trento, Loreto, La Paz, San Luis, Talacogon and the City of Bayugan. Courtesy call for the town of Veruela was moved to May 2 upon the request of the LGU.
