The electronic delivery of extension service is a network of institutions that provide a more efficient alternative to a traditional extension system for agriculture, fisheries and natural resources sectors. It maximizes the use of information and communication technology to attain a modernized agriculture and fisheries sector. It focuses on creating an electronic and interactive bridge where farmers, fishers and other stakeholders meet and transact to enhance productivity, profitability and global competitiveness.
To enhance and institutionalize the e-Extension system in agriculture, fisheries, and natural resources for optimal application, utilization and exchange among users and partners.
Department Order No. 03 series of 2007 designates the Agricultural Training Institute as lead agency for the provision of e-Extension services in collaboration with the various agencies, bureaus and organizational units of the DA. This is to integrate and harmonize ICT-based extension delivery system for agriculture and fisheries.
e-Farming. Includes technical advisory services on agriculture and fisheries technologies, technical assistance rural-based organizations, agri-entrepreneurial helpdesk, and the Philippine Agribusiness Centers.
e-Trading. Investments and market trends, agri-producers and suppliers, micro-financing services and agricultural marketing ervices.
e-Learning. Online certificate courses, digital techno kit, agri-videos, mini-tutorial, and online ordering of IEC materials.
The certificate courses currently being offered include: Managing Common Diseases in Banana, Durian Production, Citrus Production, Corn Production, and Establishing a Slaughter Goat Enterprise.
This online course was developed by ATI-Caraga due to the widespread devastion of Bugtok and Bunchy Top diseases in the banana areas of the region. The Center believes that through the online course, farmers and agricultural extension workers will be able to obtain the knowledge and skill on how to control the diseases inorder to help boost the banana industry of the region. The self-paced online instruction presents a comprehensive guide on how to eradicate the common diseases in banana not just Bugtok and Bunchy Top but also Banana Mosaic, Banana Bract Mosaic, Yellow Sigatoka, Black Sigatoka, Panama Disease, Banana Freckle and Moko. The course contains nine modules which is further divided into detailed learnings called lessons that include the diseases' mode of transmission, symptoms, and its control measures. For optimal learning experience, the course contains learning tools such as pictures and audio/video media to supplement the lectures in text form. The course is offered all year round; however, learners are required to finish the course within two months.
