Strong LGU support, vital in SOA implementation
The local government of Tagkawayan, Quezon has pledged to provide transistor radio sets to participants of “MAISkwelahan tungo sa Kaunlaran: Isang Teleradyo sa Pagmamaisan,” a School-on-the-Air on Corn production technologies. Mayor Jose Jonas Frondoso announced the good news during its program launching.
Earlier in the course of ground working activities, Mayor Frondoso along with the Chairman on Committee on Agriculture, Ernesto Herras and Municipal Agriculturist Rolando Mendoza sat down with the program team from ATI IVA to talk about the problems experienced by their farmers with regard to corn production. This is part of the research done to determine the needs of the potential farmer-enrollees. Problems cited were diseases on corn and potential market of their produce.
After years of implementing the SOA program, it has been proven that LGU support plays a key role in the success of the program. The Municipal/City Agriculture Offices help out in monitoring the participants while responding quickly to queries of farmers about the topics discussed in the program. SB Chairman on Agriculture meanwhile stresses the responsibility of the farmers in the program.
“Ano man pong gawin ng pamahalaan, nasyunal man o lokal, hindi po masasabing pagtutulungan kung yung beneficiary ay hindi naman po nakikipagtulungan” he emphasized.
For this year, the Agricultural Training Institute Region IV-A is implementing a School-on-the-Air on Corn and Livestock. “MAISkwelahan tungo sa Kaunlaran: Isang Teleradyo sa Pagmamaisan” which will cater to corn farmers from Guinayangan and Tagkawayan was launched last May 5, 2017 at Ching Larry’s Seafood Haus, Tagkawayan Quezon. The program will have its first live airing on June 2, 2017 5:00-6:00AM at 101.7 FM and Channel 9 Agri Tagkawayan TeleRadyo.
Meanwhile, “Radyo Eskwela ukol sa Sustenableng Pag-aalaga ng Baboy” a SOA on Sustainable Pig Farming technology can be heard live over Radio Veritas 846 every Thursdays, starting June 15, 2017 at 6:30 – 7:00AM. Its program launching was held last May 9, 2017 at the Activity Center of Tanay Municipal Hall.
The graduation of two SOA will be held sometime in September.
