Regional Farm Tourism Travel Guide, launched during Madrid Fusion Manila
Pasay, Manila - ATI IV-A’s “Agriculturally Awesome: Regional Farm Tourism Travel Guide,” in partnership with the Department of Tourism IV-A, reached the Madrid Fusion Manila Stage during the first day of the annual gastronomic congress.
The launching was part of the PH Agritourism: Farm, Food and Fun session, which talked about Agritourism in the Philippines. In her message, Director Rebecca Labit of Department of Tourism (DoT) Region IV-A shared how the partnership with the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) Region IV-A came to be.
"The initiative came from the ATI IV-A. They presented the project in April 2016. Parang nililigawan kami ng ATI, and it was like love at first sight…I said yes, immediately," Director Labit shared. "These farm sites are uniquely different from one another, but lives up to the true standards of farm tourism in the Philippines," she added.
ATI IV-A Training Center Superintendent, Ms. Marites-Piamonte Cosico thanked Director Labit for the opportunity to launch the magazine in the said event. Furthermore, she acknowledged the people who made the travel guide a success.
"This book and travel guide is not possible without the help of the people you can see inside: these are the farm tourism sites, it also included the learning sites of ATI, the Magsasaka Syentista, the Farmers’ Information and Technology Services Centers in Region IV-A," said Ms. Cosico.
Currently, there are 11 DoT-accredited farm tourism destinations in Region IV-A, the most across all regions. These farms were also introduced along with the launching of the travel guide.
Another highlight of the session was the panel discussion. Farm owners Ms. Josie Costales (Costales Nature Farms), Ms. Cathy Turvill (Amadeo Nurture Farmacy), Ms. Charita Puentespina (Malagos Garden Resort) and Mr. Michael Caballes (Sunflower Maize) were talked about their accomplishments and the challenges in Agritourism. They agreed that there is a need to educate the public, especially the youth about agritourism. Farmers also need to upgrade their farm facilities to attract more visitors.
The said launching was held at the Madrid Fusion Manila Stage on April 6, 2017 at the SMX Convention Center, Manila.
