LUPI, Camarines Sur- The goal of the municipality of Lupi to be a major player in the cacao industry gets a boost through the training held by the Agricultural Training Institute- Regional Training Center 5 (ATI-RTC 5) on Cacao Production and Processing with Good Agricultural Practices (GAP).

More than 30 cacao and non-cacao farmers took part in a 3-day training. Aside from lectures, they underwent actual application on grafting, planting and pruning. They were also provided with free seedlings as their startup kit.

Lupi Mayor Roberto Matamorosa praised ATI for holding the training at their municipality. He claimed it is timely since the demand for cacao worldwide is rising while the supply cannot cope with the demand. He envisioned Lupi to be a major contributor for cacao propagation as presently it hosts one of the cacao seed growers in the region.

The event was held at the Municipal Multi-Purpose Hall, Lupi, Camarines Sur last August 23-25, 2017.
