Bicol RAFEN Holds First Quarter Meeting

 NABUA, Camarines Sur-The Regional Agriculture and Fisheries Extension Network (RAFEN) held its first quarterly meeting this year. Representatives from the three pillars of extension- local government units (LGUs), national government agencies and state universities and colleges (SUC) and the private sector- converged to share out their 2016 extension accomplishments, 2017 work plans and best practices.
The meeting was presided by Agricultural Training Institute- Regional Training Center 5 (ATI-RTC 5) OIC Training Superintendent I Vivien Carable and assisted by Senior Agriculturist Joey Belarmino and Planning Officer Emmanuel Orogo. The national agencies that participated were the Department of Agriculture, Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR)Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice), Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFiDA).
Bicol University, Central Bicol State University of Agriculture, Sorsogon State College and the Dr. Emilio B. Espinosa Sr. Memorial State College of Agriculture and Technology represented the SUCs. On the hand, the LGUs were represented by the provinces of Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Masbate and Sorsogon.
Dr. Celerino Llesol of CBSUA presented the proposed RAFEN project. However, this was deferred for future discussion.The proposal to change the Memorandum of Understanding to Memorandum of Agreement was also was also set aside for further study. Nonetheless, these shall be tackled in the next quarter meeting.
The meeting was held at Macagang Business center, Nabua, Camarines Sur last February 9, 2017.
