Forum of nutrition communicators in Bicol mark National Year of Rice

DARAGA, Albay -- A forum on healthy rice preparations attended by 35 members of the Nutrition Communication Network (NutriComNet) in Bicol, including mass media practitioners, highlighted the National Year of Rice celebration.

Held May 3, 2013 at Alvi’s Albay Café in Daraga, Albay, the forum tackled salient aspects of rice led by discussants representing various sector stakeholders. Present were Arlene Reario, Regional Director of the National Nutrition Council (NNC) in Bicol, and Dr. Alejo Aralar of the Department of Health (DOH).

Sorsogon wild fruit “hagis” sought by researchers and TV host

SORSOGON CITY -– Two groups of visitors with different purposes recently sought a wild fruit locally called hagis. The fruit caught the attention of university researchers and GMA-7 TV Host Jessica Soho who both looked for endemic fruits that are becoming extinct and are found mostly in the Province of Sorsogon.

Director Saliot Officiates Laying of Time Capsule at ATI-Bicol

GUINOBATAN, Albay -- A new home for ATI in Bicol. This was foremost in everyone’s mind as they weathered the full-blast noonday heat during the ceremonial ground breaking and lowering of the time capsule on April 16, 2013. The event marked the start of construction of the ATI building in San Agustin, Pili, Camarines Sur.

ATI-Bicol teams up with Heifer International and Don Bosco

GUINOBATAN, Albay -- Private-public sector partnership is one of the key elements of the AgriPinoy strategic framework. Taking this to heart, ATI-Bicol links up with two partners from the private sector – Heifer International and Don Bosco Agro-Mechanical Training Center – with the aim of putting resources together with each to build capabilities of agriculture stakeholders in their respective communities.

Initial activities were agreed upon during meetings with each on February 7th and 21st this year, respectively.

ATI-Bicol meets with Civil Society Organizations and AFEN

This year’s first quarterly meeting of AFEN held alongside the consultations with the Civil Society Organizations (CSO) on February 16, 2012 at Balai Ko, Guinobatan, Albay.

Provincial trainers learn Organic Internal Control System Phases 1 and 2

PILI, Camarines Sur -- ATI-Bicol in partnership with local government units (LGUs) and the Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Product Standards (DA-BAFPS) and Regional Field Unit (DA-RFU) trained 40 agricultural extension workers (AEWs) on the initial steps in enabling farmers to produce certified organic produce.

Training on agricultural policy development drafts solutions to local issues

NABUA, Camarines Sur -- A Training Course on Strengthening the Grip on Agriculture and Fisheries Extension Policy Development brought out key issues close to extension managers and workers' heart. Sponsored by ATI-Bicol in partnership with the Department of Agriculture's Regional Field Units (DA-RFU) in Bicol and Caraga, the training ensued on September 27-29, 2011 at the Macagang Business Center, Nabua, Camarines Sur.

Season-long TOT on IPM and PalayCheck system takes off

GUINOBATAN, Albay -- ATI-Bicol prepares a new generation of trainers on integrated pest management (IPM) and PalayCheck system. The season-long training of trainers (TOT) on the IPM approach and PalayCheck system started on July 18, 2011 with a simple opening program held at ATI, Guinobatan, Albay.
