With tears in her eye, the wife was effusive in her appreciation to the training that the ATI  sponsored. “This is the first time that my husband participated actively and positively in a training”. The husband and wife team were participants in a training on Integrated Organic Farming at Costales Nature Farms in Majayjay, Laguna. Another husband and wife team in the same training, were also very hopeful. “I brought my wife along so that she won’t hesitate to give me money when I undertake new projects” the enthusiastic husband said. Infact, they even asked...

Sir Jim: Give example of a topic for your blog... We: Extension... Sir Jim: Extension of what? We: It's what we do... Funny but this happened during our training on blogging and photography with our resource person Mr. Jaime Ramon 'Jim' Paredes of Apo Hiking Society. We were used to having resource persons who are familiar with what we do that we just assumed the rest would also know, which include Sir Jim. Nonetheless, let me tell many others who don't know who we are and what we are. The Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) is a bureau of the Department of Agriculture mandated to provide...

The gospel and the golden rule has always been right all along---and so was Director Asterio P. Saliot’s reminder last Thursday’s lecture series to continuously do what is good and necessary for a commendable public service. In his timely message, he talked his way to the rest of the institute’s workforce regarding his recent travels local and abroad anchored in bolstering peace as well as productivity in agriculture. Noteworthy was his travel to Region-X where he, along with other officials, forged ties with the rebel returnees who deliberately decided to make a titanic...

Positive results evoke happy memories. I was with Meitats when she presented her dissertation on "Learners' Intention to Continue Using ATI's e-learning Program". Why I was there? Stick-to-e-tiveness. Meitats belongs to the e class. I am immersed in the e program and I cannot miss knowing how we fare in our e efforts. Here's what she presented. There were 960 e-learner-respondents most of whom (67.9%) claimed to have fair experienced with ATI's e-Learning program. By fair, it means that they believed ATI's system used is well established, secured and stable. They were satisfied with...

In my blog "Life according to Jim", one of the life lessons I mentioned was 'be accident prone'. I was thinking when would it happen to me, until I read "Not Once But Twice" did I realize that it already did. Photography always fascinates me ever since I can remember. I always look for ways of improving what little I know of this craft. Since I don't have any formal training on photography, I never entertained joining any photography contests.    I had my first "accident" in 2012. ATI was celebrating its 25th anniversary and there was a call for photo...

Our office, the Agricultural Training Institute sponsored a training on Integrated Organic Agriculture and Agri-Tourism Development at Costales Nature Farms in Majayjay, Laguna. The training was conducted by the Costales family- Sir Ronald, Maam Josie and their son, Reden. We have two husband and wife teams in the group. From interacting with them,  I saw the advantages of having both husbands and wives together in one training. (I just wished I brought mine.) This led me to conclude that husbands and wives should attend training together if they plan to go organic: 1. The partner will...

I did my very best!!! I almost have it!!! I gave my passionate shot!!! But I did not get it!!! It was year 2012 when I tried to join the contest in photography called by the Agricultural Training Institute Central Office during its 25th Founding Anniversary with the theme “ATI At It’s Best”. I won, of course! But only 2nd place…Not bad… at least I won. I accepted it positively believing that there’s still room for improvement and still I have to develop my skill and knowledge in photography. Winner during that contest was Mr. Dennis Boyd Baltazar of...

So Jim Paredes told me that I should simplify writing my sentences. I got his “tall orders” loud and clear that a blog should have small interesting chunks of sentences capable of sustaining reader’s attention span. Yes, Jim Paredes of the Apo Hiking Society fame. He’s with us for our five-day Blogging and Photography Workshop in Coron, Palawan as our resource person. Most people might have only known Mr. Paredes as a singer-composer but he’s every inch a blogger and a published author too. Unfortunately, I have this nasty habit of constructing long sentences...

I was excited then, who wouldn't be? We were going to one of the amazing places in the Philippines -- Coron, Palawan -- and I would be tagging along my kids with me eventhough it would cost me that much, but I was so sure that it would be worth it. More so, we were able to get as resource speaker, one of my favorite artists -- Mr. Jim Paredes of the Apo Hiking Society!!! Well, it's other than the topic that I got interested in -- it's all about blogging and photography. When that day arrived, I got busy preparing for my kids' needs and for coordinating Sir Jim's accommodation at our...

Trainings for e-Extension Coordinators of ATI are always exciting because they are usually held in different venues. Recently, I have three (3) reasons to be excited: 1) it is held in Coron, Palawan, one of my wish-to-visit-place; 2) it is about blogging and photography, which is one of my most-requested-training since I became an e-Extension Coordinator; and 3) the most exciting is our resource person Mr. Jaime Ramon Paredes, the Jim Paredes of Apo Hiking Society, one of my favorite singing groups of all time.   The training was one of my best with Sir Jim sharing to us his...
