TANTANGAN, South Cotabato - As another year has closed so too the new one begins. At the onset of 2019, the management of the Agricultural Training Institute Regional Training Center XII (ATI-RTC XII), gathered every staff for a 3-day staff meeting and Capability building geared to prepare them for the upcoming activities of the center for the current year.
A simultaneous Field Day and field visit was conducted last December 12, 2018 on the four AgRiDOC-affiliated FFS sites in Tantangan. 120 farmers from the four sites were ferried by 12 hired multicabs in order for them to see firsthand the demo areas on other FFS sites.
To make farming more attractive to younger generations, several approaches are being introduced, one of them is edible landscaping. Edible landscaping is simply producing your own food while keeping your surroundings aesthetically pleasing.
Extension work is a very noble and satisfying profession, yet we can't deny that it also involves some danger especially in delivering extension services on-site. That is why, last November 6, 2018 the 25 AgRiDOC participants underwent First Aid Training in partnership with Red Cross South Cotabato Chapter.
An excellent facilitation skills is important especially for Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs). Considering that in extension delivery, we often deal with adult learners, AEWs should be well aware of how to handle them efficiently. Consequently, AgRiDOCs launched four affiliated Farmers' Field School Sites in Rice Production last October 2, 2018.
To further enhance the knowledge of the AgRiDOC participants on Hybrid Rice Production and help in the hybridization program of the Department of Agriculture, the 25 AgRiDOCs attended the Training on Hybrid Rice Seed Production last September 24-28, 2018 at Venue88, General Santos City. Among the other participants are prospective hybrid rice seed growers from all over Region XII.
As part of the logistical support of the ATI-RTC XII , 25 tablets were given to each of the AgRiDOC participants to help them in carrying out their roles and responsibilities as change catalysts. These tablets will be utilized primarily in promoting the different ICT tools developed by the Department of Agriculture and its attached agencies and counterparts.
With the desire of the AgRiDOC Training Management to further the capabilities of the AgRiDOC participants, an enhancement course on agricultural crop production (ACP) was held last September 18, 2018. This training is aimed towards their bid for ACP NC III certification with the TESDA.
The season-long training on Enabling the AgRiDOC: A New Breed of Rice Extensionists took off last September 3, 2018. It was attended by 25 Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) in Region XII.

Before ending the year an assessment of achieved accomplishments of the center was conducted. It was an in-house yearend assessment on December 19, 2018 at ATI-RTC XII, San Felipe, Tantangan, South Cotabato.

The School-on-the-Air (SOA) on Rubber kicked off last October 27, 2018. The radio program was in coordination with the Local Government Units (LGUs) of Kidapawan City, Magpet, Makilala, Pres. Roxas, and Antipas, all in North Cotabato Proince, where more or less 500 participants is expected to join the 4-month long weekly radio program.

Changing lives changing community: Environmental Awareness and Stewardship for Rice Focals in Maguindanao

MAROGONG, Lanao Del Sur- Corn and cassava are one of the staple foods in the Philippines aside from rice. In Lanao Del Sur the average corn consumption was estimated at 4.38 kilograms and cassava posted the highest consumption at 3.15 kilograms per person a year, respectively base on food consumption statistic.
