SERGIO OSMEÑA, Zamboanga del Norte – With the aim to give opportunities to the unschool youths in the rural areas of Zamboanga Peninsula, the Center of Ecology and Organic Farming Inc. (CEOFI) opened and launched their Family Farm School last May 17, 2019, at Brgy. Biayon, Sergio Osmeña, Zamboanga del Norte.
Family Farm School is an innovative method for training youth, serving as an instrument for the development of the community. Also, it is a tool for the poverty alleviation of the community who engage in farming as their means of livelihood and source of income.
The establishment of this farm school is also in support to Senator Cynthia Villar’s authored Republic Act 10816 or the Farm Tourism Law, which encourages small farmers to convert their properties into tourist farms and learning sites for agriculture and tourism courses.
As partners in helping the community, the Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center IX (ATI-RTC IX) was invited through Ms. Alicia Rose D. Nebreja, Center Director. She gave an inspirational message to the stakeholders, guests, and visitors during the activity. She said, “We hope to convert the CASH into KASH, which means Knowledge, Attitude, Skills, and Habit to the youths who will enroll in this program. This is also an opportunity for the CEOFI to become a School for Practical Agriculture (SPA)”.
CEOFI is one of the accredited Learning Site for Agriculture (LSA) of ATI-RTC IX and it is spearheaded by their Executive Director, Rev. Fr. Nemesio A. Sayon.
