The local farmer technicians are farmers and/or farmer leaders from their respective municipalities that were endorsed by the Municipal agriculturists to the department of agriculture under the national rice program as the extension partners in reaching out the farmers at the grassroots level. They may serve as technicians to the barangays to augment the few numbers of Agricultural technicians in the local government units in order to cater all the needs of the farmers most especially concerning in Rice programs/projects and interventions. The chosen LFT will undergo TOT 10 days to enhance their knowledge about rice farming technologies.

To fully equip the LFT, another refresher course TOT was conducted by the ATI-RTC IX on February 11-15 at Brgy. Azusano Titay, Zamboanga Sibugay, This time a refresher course that was designed to capacitate and equip them with the basic skills needed in farm mechanization.

It was participated by 30 Local farmer Technicians from the municipalities of Alicia, Buug, Diplahan, Imelda, Payao, Titay, RT Lim, Mabuhay, Siay, Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay and from Siocon Zamboanga del Norte.

The said training focused on the Agriculture and Fisheries Mechanization Law (AFMech) RA 10061, the Rice Production Technologies (e.g. pre and post-harvest machineries) such as the Power tiller, Reaper harvester and combine harvester, and lastly the hands-on operation of the above-mentioned machineries.

As usually say, experience is the best teacher. Every local farmer technician was given a time to operate the machineries to really feel what it feels like to operate one. The LFT participants were very satisfied with the training because most of them happily admitted that it’s actually their first time especially the women LFTs. Farm machineries may be available at their respective localities but not everyone was given the chance to ride on it most especially to operate it.

“Dako ang akong pasalamat sa DA pinaagi sa ATI sa pagpahigayon ug training of Trainers for Local Farmer Technicians (LFT) Refresher. Kini nga training dako kaayo ang gikatabang kanako. Ang mga training very interesting ug labi na gayud sa gipahigayon nga hands-on sa mga farm machineries, sama sa combine harvester, reaper ug tractor” an excerpt from the impression of Mr. Rene E. Canas, LFT from Buug, Zamboanga Sibugay.

The 5-day training was a very productive one. The participants were very much satisfied to the new knowledge they acquired and pledge to share it with the farmers in their locality.
