NORTHERN MINDANAO – Following the Training on Organic Agriculture for AEW’s and Farmers Cum Experience-based held on January 22-24, 2018 at Farmers Haven, Dao, Pagadian City, was the experience-based tour in the successful ATI X Learning Sites in Region X.
After the successful training, the Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center IX (ATI-RTC IX) spearheaded by the Organic Agriculture Focal Mr. Elias Nayal, conducted the experience-based tour with the group of AEWs and farmers from Zamboanga Peninsula and Tawi-Tawi Province and visited ATI-RTC X Learnings Sites. The said participants are aspiring to become an ATI-RTC IX Learning site on organic agriculture in the future.
The experience-based is an opportunity to showcase the different good organic agricultural practices of the learning sites visited with its main objective, which is to provide an avenue for participants to acquire new learnings on best practices of organic agriculture practitioners and interact with SPA/ESP counterparts.
The first farm visited is the Hoyohoy Highland Stone Chapel Adventure Park, an organic farm and adventure destination owned by the former Governor Loreto “Leo” Ocampos at Brgy. Hoyohoy, Tangub City, Misamis Occidental with his topic on Highland Organic Free Range Chicken.
The second farm visited is the Square Foot Organic Gardening by Mr. Honorio S. Cervantes, a retired police at Pagatpat, Cagayan De Oro City. He was able to discuss the organic foot garden with his lot area of only 200 sq.m.
The third farm is the Jaya Secret Garden located at Malaybalay City, Bukidnon, owned and managed by Mr. Junah Bayag with his family. He discussed on Diversified Urban Gardening that correlate to his painting.
The fourth farm visited is at Alomah’s Place named from the combination of surnames “ALO from Alombro and “MAH” from the Mahistrado passion driven acronym-A love of mountains and Horses. They were able to discuss on Organic Lettuce Production, Herbs and Farm Tourism.
The last farm is at Buhian Diversified Farm at Inintao, Misamis Oriental owned by Mr. and Mrs. Aljun Buhian. They were able to discuss on Coco-based Organic Farming where their farm is actually a diversified farm under coco-based. After every discussion made, the owner able to tour their place together with the participants.
ATI – RTC IX enthusiastically supports the promotion of farm tourism in the region to attract visitors and tourist to farm areas for agricultural production, educational and recreational purposes. In fact, more farmers have transformed their farm from being simple plantations to unique travel destinations showcasing the regions distinct agricultural practices.
