A total of forty (40) members of the tribal group Akeanon-Bukidnon Tribe especially women attended the 3-day training entitled: Si Juana tungo sa pagpapa-unlad ng industriya ng Abaca: Training on Gender and Development cum Abaca Production and Processing held on September 26 – 28, 2018 at Sitio Agbatuan, brgy. Oyang, Libacao, Aklan.
The participants were equipped with knowledge on the different statutory mandates protecting and empowering women. Likewise, they were taught of the proper cultural management of Abaca from planting to harvesting with hands-on demonstration.
After the 3-day training the participants was able to realize that their practice of harvesting abaca at fruiting stage is definitely not the right and recommended stage according to the PhilFIDA and it was proven to them during the hands-on demonstration. The participants were very thankful that they have attended such trainings because they were able to improve their management and practices of their Abaca production. For the women, they were also thankful because majority of them were not aware of those existing laws protecting them.
The activity aimed at enhancing the quality of abaca produced by the community to be able to improve/increase the income of the family. A simple abaca drying facility will be established this October as after training support of the activity.
