Addressing the challenge to prolong the shelf life of fresh mushroom, Aklanons from nine participating Municipalities completed the 16 weeks airing of School-On-the-Air (SOA) to capacitate the mushroom growers on Processing, Packaging, Labelling, and Marketing. This in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture-Regional field Office VI (DA-RFO VI) which started from August 19 to December 3, 2018.
Specifically, the activity is designed to train farmers/mushroom growers on value adding and product development with hands-on demo on different mushroom products which has potential market value.
Dr. Eden DLR. Bautista, Training Center Superintendent II-ATI-RTC VI, confirmed the 532 graduates upon the endorsement of the project officer Ms. Florepe M. Mortalla, Information Officer II. In her inspirational message, Dr. Bautista extended her congratulations and thanks to the participants for another accomplishment that could help in the promotion of the mushroom industry in AKlan. Dr. Bautista challenged the graduates to sustain the production and processing of fresh mushroom with the knowledge and skills that they have already acquired. “Kung una gihapon kamo, iya gid ro ATI nga gabulig kinyo dahil uwa kami kung uwa kamo” –Dr. Bautista said
Likewise, Dr. Ambrocio Villorente, Retired ATI Director and Editor in Chief, Madyaas Pen, inspired the participants with his message focusing on patience and hard work of Filipino farmers, as he shared his experiences that brought him into the peak of his career.
Also present during the graduation ceremony was Mr. Edilberto Macahilig representative of Congressman Carlito S. Marquez, Hon. Erlinda Maming, Municipal Mayor of Banga , Dr. Danilo A. Abayon, Aklan State University President and Mr. Eden B. Panisales of DA-RFO VI.
The graduation was held at ASU Review Center, ASU Compound, Banga, Aklan.
