Isang ‘complete package’ and aming training.
Ms. Zipagan is one of the 50 backyard chicken raisers who graduated from the two batches of Farmers Poultry School (FPS) conducted in Cauayan City, Isabela and Tuguegarao City, Cagayan on November 29 and December 6, 2018, respectively.
The FPS is a 16-week long training program designed by the Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center 02 and implemented with the Local Government Units. It was launched on August 6 at Barangay Carbatan Punta, Cauayan City and on October 24 at Barangay Atulayan Sur, Tugugearao City.
According to Dr. Maurieann M. Turingan, the Focal Person of the Livestock Extension Program of ATI-RTC 02, the goal of FPS is to capacitate the raisers so that they will able to manage free range chicken production and enterprise, and eventually organize themselves to become a source of quality chicken meat and eggs in the region.
In the FPS, the participants meet weekly to study the growth of the chicken from egg to egg. They were taught on the appropriate production practices and technologies such as egg incubation and fabrication of incubator, feed formulation, and production of natural farming inputs.
The lecturers of the FPS were graduates of the Training of Trainers on Free-range Chicken Production held on July 16-20, 2018.
After their training, the ATI-RTC 02 provided the participants with two units of incubators that they can be used to multiply the chickens that were also given to them.
A. Mendoza of Cauayan City.
Next year, the ATI-RTC 02 will be implementing several batches of the same FPS.
