Isabeleños join the nation in celebrating of the National Rice Awareness. The Agricultural Training Institute- Regional Training Center 02 in partnership with the Philippine Rice Research Institute- Isabela Branch and Bureau of Plant and Industry – National Seed Quality Control Services conducted a 70-kilometer information caravan in central Isabela that aims to create awareness on our staple food.
The said caravan started at 7:00 in the morning and traversed the San Mateo- Santiago- Cauayan City route on November 23, 2018.
A culminating program was conducted at the SM City Cauayan activity center wherein students, farm, consumers and other stakeholders were briefed on the status of the rice industry in the country and in the region in particular.
PhilRice also presented the roles of everyone on how to contribute on the national goal of the government which is the food self-sufficiency. The group also showed alternative source of energy aside from rice. These healthier options include camote, banana, corn, and others.
Also, each participant received a pack of brown rice that they can cook and share to their respective families or friends.
The National Rice Awareness month is celebrated every November. This year, the celebration’s theme is “Quality Rice. Quality Life.”
