BAGABAG, NUEVA VIZCAYA. The Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center 02 (ATI-RTC 02) established an Artificial Insemination (AI) Center at GAC Farm, Sta. Cruz, Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya owned by Mr. Maximiano Tejero.
This AI Center will help address the low number of boars in the locality and provide high quality semen to hog raisers. It is one of the strategies for the national backyard poultry and swine development of the Department of Agriculture. “It is under the commercialization of the small-hold poultry and swine producers, which provides two Boar Artificial Insemination services in the area with estimated 200 sows to be served and expected to produce 2,888 finishers in one year,” Dr. Maurieann Turingan said.
She narrated the objective of the project, which is to provide high quality semen to hog raisers at an affordable price which will eventually lessen the production cost and gain more profit. Dr. Turingan further explained that the project will produce high quality piglets and finishers, lessen the occurrence of reproductive diseases and provide sustainable food and income to all hog raisers.
As a start-up support for the AI service, the ATI-RTC 02 provided the cooperator with two junior boars, a crossbreed of Pietrain and Duroc, AI equipment and consumables, laboratory equipment, feeds and refrigerator.
The awarding of the said support, which was conducted on November 16, 2018 was graced by the technical staff of DA-RFO 02, ATI-RTC 02, Provincial Veterinary Office of Nueva Vizcaya, LGU Bagabag, Barangay Captains and hog raisers. Bagabag Mayor Johnny Sevillena was very thankful for the project. “You will expect that we will support the project and we will sustain it,” he promised.
The GAC AI Center is now ready to cater the hog raisers of Bagabag and nearby municipalities at a lower price. Hog raisers can also avail free semen.
