The Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center 02 (ATI-RTC 02) conducted two batches of capability enhancement training for Local Farmer Technicians (LFTs) from different municipalities of region 02.
The activity aimed at strengthening and improving the quality of extension services and interventions thus, the need to enhance the capabilities of the LFTs. They were given updates on the current trends of the rice industry and prospects through good agricultural practices (GAP) and ASEAN integration.
Participants were given lectures on accessing information, communication technology (ICT) based tools as well as how to operate rice crop manager both online and offline in generating recommendations.
Since GAP is promoted for the production of quality and safe produce, Mr. Robert Salvador of Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority discussed the general pesticide information and its proper use and handling.
Meanwhile, Mr. Cenon Mallillin of the DA-Regional Crop Protection Center discussed the updates on rice pests and diseases. He shared how to manage rice black bug as the current major insect pest that damage the rice crop .
On social technologies, Dr. Claris Alaska and Ms. Francisca Yuro of ATI-RTC 02 discussed the extension methods and approaches, extension communication, presentation and facilitation skills. The discussions were inputs in performing their roles as local farmer technicians.
Participants demonstrated appreciation and interest in the importance of new technologies and updates shared by the resource persons.
The activity was conducted in support to the Department of Agriculture’s rice program.
