The season-long training on Enabling the AgRiDOC: A New Breed of Rice Extensionists took off last September 3, 2018. It was attended by 25 Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) in Region XII. This training aims to develop change catalyst with a strong sense of mission to help transform farming communities toward competitiveness, sustainability, & resiliency using science-based & locally appropriate strategies.
As part of the training and to develop their technical skills in rice production, a Participatory Technology Demonstration (PTD) is establish in the Center to serve as their study area. This PTD is on Varietal Trial Adaptability of the three inbred varieties (NSIC Rc 160, NSIC Tc 342 and NSIC Rc 420) and one public hybrid variety (Mestizo 20). A Rice Crop Manager (RCM) recommendation as to its nutrient management will be applied for all varieties. The 25 AgRiDOCs will monitor its growth up to harvesting to see which variety in adaptable in the area.
Farmers from within the region as well as participants of the various training's of the Center are free to visit and observe this PTD.
