KIDAPAWAN CITY, Cotabato- Due to the issues regarding the “fake” vinegar being sold to the public, Department of Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel “Manny” Piñol came up with an initiative to train the coco farmers on the production of coco vinegar.
During the Biyaheng Bukid of Secretary Piñol in Kidapawan City, he instructed the ATI-RTC XII, in coordination with Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) Region XII, to be the lead agency in conducting the said training.
Further, more than one hundred farmers attended the one-day seminar on Coconut Vinegar Production. It was held at the Cotabato Provincial Gymnasium, Amas, Kidapawan City last July 3, 2019.

Ms Normina P. Pahm, Provincial Director of DOST Cotabato, said that the acetator could process coconut water into vinegar in just 16 hours. She also stated that those interested associations who want to venture into production of the said coco vinegar may connect with Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC) for the loaning programs.
The trends and demands on vinegar production, Good Manufacturing Processes (GMP) and Food and Safety for coconut vinegar production were also discussed during the training.
Additionally, a coco festival was simultaneously organized. Each participants enjoyed drinking buko juice. Ms Juvy T. Alayon, OIC Regional Manager of PCA-XII, said that the coco fest promotes the consumption of buko juice to help the coco farmers gain alternative income amidst the price dropped of copra.
