Free Seminar on Fermented Concoctions and Seedling Tray Preparation

The Agricultural Training Institute in collaboration with the Spread Organic Agriculture in the Philippines (SOAP) Movement will once again host another free seminar on organic agriculture.  This seminar is also in partnership with the Bureau of Agricultural Research, Agricultural Marketing Assistance Service and the Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Products Standards of the Philippine Department of Agriculture.

Coming this September 20, 2013, this month's seminar will tackle Know Your Fermented Concoctions (FPJ FFJ OHN etc) and Scientifically / Seedling Tray Preparation. It aims to enable the people to understand what and why they are using them and learn the proper materials to use and when to apply the different concoctions.

SOAP has invited Dr. Blesilda Calub of the University of the Philippines Los Banos to discuss the results of her studies on this topic with conclusive data. Dr. Calub will present the updates on the Science of Organic Fertilizers and Microbial Inoculants, following this outline:

1. Overview of the updated Philippine National Standards for Organic Fertilizers

2. Some definitions (organic fertilizers, soil amendments, plant supplements, microbial inoculants, etc)

3. Comparing Organic Fertilizers with Synthetic Fertilizers

4. Updates on research being done on organic fertilizers

a. UPLB - PCAARRD Project

b. UPLB DA-BAR project

She will present the tests being done: Chemical, Microbiological and Efficacy (effect on crop growth and yield)

Another speaker has been invited for this seminar who is a 2011 Gawad Saka Awardee for Agripreneur, Daisy Duran to discuss the "Preparation of potting mediums and seedling trays as a business."

This free seminar will be held at Serrano Hall, Agricultural Training Institute, Elliptical Road corner Visayas Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City.
