Samar Farmers Learn IDOFS

Thirty-two (32) participants, mostly farmers, had ‘ground operations’ on the training titled Integrated Diversified Organic Farming System (IDOFS) conducted by the Agricultural Training Institute Regional Training Center VIII (ATI-RTC 8) on October 3-8, 2016 at La Granja de Reyna Farms, Brgy. Bagacay, Tacloban City. The training aimed for the participants to learn and gain knowledge and skills on IDOFS and utilize it as a small-scale enterprise.

Norala Rice Farmers say "No to Synthetic"

 The continuous application of chemosynthetic fertilizer in rice for decades has led to the decrease in soil productivity. The yield of rice becomes less and less despite increased rate of inorganic fertilizer application. This is mainly because the organic matter content of the soil has already been depleted which affects the availability of soil nutrients for the plant. Thus the organic way of producing food as stipulated under Executive Order 481 (2005) is being promoted to improve and hasten soil nutrient availablity.

Farm Away from Home

Many people move away from home to study. But in case of Randy Lanot, a 21-year old out-of-school youth (OSY) and 4H member from Brooke’s Point, leaving his family and friends behind for a month while staying in a family you haven’t met nor heard before is hard. But for the sake of learning and experience, he responded to the call of Adopt-a-Youth Program of ATI-MiMaRoPa.

Together with their 4H Municipal Federation President and former Adopt-a-Youth Scholar, Ireneo Maestrecampo, they flew to Oriental Mindoro to attend the launching and be part of the program.

Thirty beneficiaries of the Climate Change Livelihood Projects in General Nakar, Quezon attended the activity.

20 ATI-EP learners honored during culmination

Twenty ATI-EP learners who are at their elementary level ages 14-21 years who want to pursue secondary education was conferred during the culmination program held at Bohol Tropics Resort Hotel, Tagbilaran City last May 27, 2017 after they completed the six-month in-house and on-field training at ATI-Regional Training Center 7 and selected demonstration farm in Bohol together with the Department of Education-Alternative Learning Systems (DepEd ALS). Part of their expected output is to establish a backyard garden in their respective households.

Binhi ng Pag-asa Program: Planting Seeds of Change in the Youth

Majayjay, Laguna –Through the Young Farmers Program (YFP), the rural youth is being trained and empowered to become competent agripreneurs in their respective localities.    Over the years, the Agricultural Training Institute has been creating opportunities for young farmers to become not just producers, but also entrepreneurs. ATI’s YFP and 4-H Clubs are youth development programs geared towards harnessing the potentials of young people as major contributors in community development.

Awarding of the P1M to LGU Lambayong for 2016 Rice Achievers Award

One of the winners of the of the 2016 Rice Achievers Award goes to the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat.  LGU-Lambayong is the lone winner of Region XII.  As a winner, LGU Lambayong will receive a PhP 1,000,000.00 cash prize to be facilitated by ATI-XII.  The prize won by LGU Lambayong will be in the form of a project grant based on what they would want to use it.  In this case, LGU Lambayong proposed to renovate its training center including the installation of amenities and audio visual facilities therein.  The LGU gave the responsibility

ATI-XII reaches out to displaced families from Marawi City

     The on-going war between the government forces and the Maute group displaced thousands of Marawi City residents.  Some families went as far as Manila and in the Visayas to avoid being caught in the crossfire.   Some of them, about 150 individuals escaped to Gen. Santos City (GSC) and took temporary shelter particularly in Barangay Labangal.

Organic vegetable production is already a widespread farming system in the Philippines but confined mostly on small-scale and part-time farming operations.  Only few individuals are into commercial scale production considering the size of the farm every Filipino farmer owned.  Usually, farmers produce organic vegetables for their own consumption.  They sell some only when there is surplus out of their produce.
