Samar Farmers Learn IDOFS

Thirty-two (32) participants, mostly farmers, had ‘ground operations’ on the training titled Integrated Diversified Organic Farming System (IDOFS) conducted by the Agricultural Training Institute Regional Training Center VIII (ATI-RTC 8) on October 3-8, 2016 at La Granja de Reyna Farms, Brgy. Bagacay, Tacloban City. The training aimed for the participants to learn and gain knowledge and skills on IDOFS and utilize it as a small-scale enterprise.

CSFBS Training draws Strong Response

 Despite the 10-day training duration, forty three (43) participants flocked to attend the Training on Climate Smart Farm Business School at Veranda, Casisang, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon. The training started on February 20, 2016 to March 1, 2017. The participants are a mixed of Agricultural Extension Workers and some from ATI Learning Sites in the Region.

 El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental. – A mother of seven could not contain her excitement when she reported how an ATI training program helped her pay the boarding house, food and allowances of her two university students. This is what Mrs. Efepania Judy S. Lacandula, a Rural Improvement Club (RIC) member of Guinsiliban, Camiguin Province, eagerly talked about when she presented her report during the 4-H and RBO Planning Workshop held in February 22-23, 2017 at the ATI-RTC X in El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental.

Gone are the days when famers rely only on one crop or livestock in their farm. Recent demand for sufficient and healthy food supply on every Filipino family’s table call for changes in the farming systems applied by farmers in the country. Integrated Diversified Organic Farming System (IDOFS), in particular, is the practice of producing a variety of crops or animals or inland fisheries, or, both, on one farm interlinked with one another. With IDOFS, farmers are also encouraged to tap into their business sense and become agripreneurs.

It was a night of triumph for ATI-RTC 10 as it bagged three (3) of the 10 awards handed out by the Information Services Division (ISD) during the 1st Knowledge Management (KM) Updates for 2017 held at Rural Development Education Center (RDEC), Agricultural Training Institute (ATI), Diliman, Quezon City. The awards received are: Highest number of e-Learning Graduates; Best Local Media Presence and Best Social Media Presence in Facebook during ATI’s 30th Anniversary. The three awards were based on the performance of the center in 2016.
