Thirty-two (32) participants, mostly farmers, had ‘ground operations’ on the training titled Integrated Diversified Organic Farming System (IDOFS) conducted by the Agricultural Training Institute Regional Training Center VIII (ATI-RTC 8) on October 3-8, 2016 at La Granja de Reyna Farms, Brgy. Bagacay, Tacloban City. The training aimed for the participants to learn and gain knowledge and skills on IDOFS and utilize it as a small-scale enterprise.

More staff acquires skill on module development

Two staff of ATI-Caraga completed the four-day Training on Module Development at the Rural Development and Education Center (RDEC), ATI-Central Office, Diliman, Quezon City last March 14-17, 2017. Ms. Violeta Laguna, TS II, and Mr. Jason Jampac, ISS staff, comprised the 1st batch of participants for 2017. The modules they developed were “Training Module on Making Organic Fertilizers” and “Training Module on Basic Journalism for AEWs and ESPs”.

Together We Can Change the World: Training of Facilitators on Farm Business School (FBS)

Bacoor, Cavite- The Agricultural Training Institute Region IV-A formed thirty (30) new  driven and diverse FBS facilitators for the Calabarzon Region. The group was a mixture of Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs), employees from the National Government Agencies, State Universities and Colleges and farm owners. Majority of the group were farm owners which added a lively and inspiring twist during the 10 – day training.

Banking on the community spirit for seed preservation

The changing environment poses a threat to food production. Without a stable seed supply, farmers will not be able to plant crops hence affecting the already dwindling food supply for an ever-increasing populace. Members of the community, especially farmers, have big roles when it comes to community seed banking. As such, farmers and Agricultural technicians need to gain knowledge and skills in seed preservation.

The meeting conducted at ATI-RTC 1 Satellite Training Center, Batac City, Ilocos Norte last March 16-17, 2017 was attended by thirty five (35) RAFEN member representatives including guests agencies like DOST and DSWD.

AgRiDOC in SOX delivers New Breed of Extension to Farmer of Sarangani

AgRiDOC trainees of  ATI-XII conducted ocular inspection and field test of the rice doctor mobile application in the municipality of Maitum, Sarangani Province last February 11, 2017.
 
The 1-hectare farm visited was owned by Mr. Julito C. Ramirez, a native of Maitum and a farmer practitioner for almost 35 years. During the field walk, various rice diseases were observed by the training participants, to wit; bacterial leaf blight (BLB) and sheath blight, among others. There was also visible damage caused by rodents.

Don't fly solo

Like the rest of the RTCs, we aren't spared from numbers this year. We have to conduct nth times training and other extension activities. There are things to do in preparation for the ISO 9001:2015. We will be implementing a program for the 22 provinces with high incidence of poverty, and in our region, it's the province of Leyte and the three provinces in Samar Island. We have on-going rehabilitation of our facility. These make our hands full and overflowing.
