PHILIPPINES – Hundreds of members of the 4-H Club of the Philippines convened in summer camps, workshops, forums, and other related events in various localities around the country. This was an effort of the Agricultural Training Institute, through its Regional Training Centers (RTCs), to continuously empower young farmers and agricultural enthusiasts in the country.

DILIMAN, Quezon City – Enabling and inspiring young farmers to be competent agri-entrepreneurs are among the government’s efforts to boost the agriculture and fisheries sector in the country. As such, the Department of Agriculture, through the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI), and the Office of Senator Grace Poe (OSGP) forged a partnership for the Binhi ng Pagasa Program or BPP.

DILIMAN, Quezon City – For more than three decades now, the Department of Agriculture (DA) has been reaching out to young farmers in rural areas in the Philippines to pass on new agricultural technologies and practices through an exchange program in Japan. This program, called the Young Filipino Farmers Training Program in Japan (YFFTPJ), has recently concluded a Pre-departure Orientation Course (PDOC) for some 18 scholars this year.

DILIMAN, Quezon City – The growing interest of more Filipinos in mango farming is bringing in more hope for the industry to meet the increasing domestic and international market demand. This was exhibited recently during the Agricultural Training Institute’s (ATI) Free Seminar on Mango Production and Processing.

Around 300 individuals from as far as SOCCSKSARGEN came and participated in the discussion and demonstrations. They are mostly mango growers, local government employees, students, and private citizens with the desire to engage in mango farming.

MUÑOZ, Nueva Ecija — To ensure efficient transfer of technology to stakeholders and increase their level of mechanization adoption, a new breed of experts recently underwent a Resource Person Development Course on Grains Postharvest Technology. These new pool of resource persons are composed of 19 Agriculture & Fishery Mechanization (AFMech) focals from the Agricultural Training Institute’s (ATI) network of training centers and the Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMech).

Aside from boosting the influx of tourists to local farms, “Farm Tourism” likewise advocates knowledge on agricultural practices in the country that will encourage more active involvement in the agriculture and fisheries sector. Moreover, it opens up opportunities for farmer-producers to market their products by connecting them directly to potential niche markets.

The Master in Public Management major in Rural Development (MPM-RD) is an 18-month scholarship program that seeks to foster the rural development initiatives in the Philippines.
